The GOP In 2008: Overview and Analysis (Last of Three parts)

VI. "The Rifleman"-John McCain

One of the most popular shows of the 1960s was the Western drama The Rifleman. " It was the story of gun-wielding Lucas McCain (played by Chuck Connors). When the peaceful efforts failed, McCain used his gun to resolve disputes, literally shoot from the hip. In American politics, there is another McCain, the same philosophy, the former presidential candidate and the Republican senator from Arizona, John McCain.

McCain was accusedbrutally honest, some of the GOP members who do not even see him as a true conservative has alienated. His quest for the GOP presidential nomination 2000 led him to many parts of the electorate and the potential Republican candidates for the nomination, 2008, he has more in-the-board support. This support comes not only from middle-of-the-road Republican, but Democrats who are dissatisfied with their recent decisions of the presidential candidates Gore and Bradley, Kerry, Edwards, Sharpton,Moseley-Braun, Kucinich, et al).

In December 2002 McCain was given the score a "0" from the ACLU on civil rights vote. While the ACLU may not be the impartial institution in America, McCain is the score they give cause for concern. (McCain, the Arizona, was the last state, the birthday of Martin Luther King) to make a national holiday. The organization was able to cover this issue is America's original civic values of the Constitution and the Bill of Right.(Also) equal protection of the law ... regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin. "The ACLU also contain" segments of the population that previously denied their rights, including Native Americans and other people of color, lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgendered people, women, mental health patients, prisoners, persons with disabilities, and poor. "

In January 2000 McCain introduced that relate to the South Carolina Confederate flag as "aSymbol of cultural heritage. "Holly Ramer, Associated Press countered:" This phrase is used by some, the flag to continue flying over the Statehouse will be used. "The senator also voted" no "on adding sexual orientation to definition of hate crimes, but without analyzing the details of its entire vote, the ACLU analysis seems to be taken pretty far and misleading. Senator's position has always been affirmative Action is good for certain programs, as long as they do not setRates. He added: "The Federal Government should consider affirmative action programs, whether by a court to rectify specific programs." (Project Vote Smart, 1998).

The Republican right sees McCain in a less than flattering light. Not all of these conservatives would support his candidacy. McCain offered this explanation: "Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and some leaders of the pro-life movement call me an unacceptable presidential candidate ... because I do not Pander to them. We embracethe fine members of the conservative religious community. But that does not mean that we support their self-appointed leaders ... Pander is (WHO) have harmful influences on religion and politics. No party should maneuvering by the outer edge of American politics and the agents of intolerance, whether they be Louis Farrakhan or Al Sharpton is defined on the left, or Robertson or Falwell on the right side. "

McCain has struggled to eliminate so-called "soft money" donations to politicalFinance campaigns, writing "Our campaign laws of our country have failed. Until we abolish soft money, Americans will have never seen a government that is working so hard for them because they are not for special interests." (The Boston Globe, p. A19, January 28, 2000).

The senator supports the military efforts in Iraq, even if the strategy is characterized as "Whack-A-Mole." The success of the insurgency campaign shows how unprepared our soldiers to fight for long. McCainrecognizes that this problem is amplified by the low recruitment. He believes that Congress is at fault, they say it has failed to offer better pay and benefits for soldiers. "The military is not seen as an attractive option," he said. "There are 11,000 military personnel on food stamps and that is a national disgrace."

McCain believes a better missile defense strategy can be developed, and that the military wastes money on unneeded weapons, including the C-130 military transport aircraftAircraft and the B-2 stealth bomber.

The country shifted to the center, where McCain stands. If the Democrats do not do this, I still see a further ten years of Republican leadership.

VII POSSIBLES: Jeb Bush and Rudy Giuliani

Despite the urging of his father's 52-year-old Jeb Bush, the 43rd has Governor of Florida did not desire, to the 44th President of the United States expressed. Few believe him, relying on the fact that two-term governor, he will not be eligible to seekReelection in 2005.

In 1973, Jeb graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Texas at Austin. He earned a bachelor's degree in Latin American Studies. He for his father during the campaign 1980, lost the Republican nomination, Ronald Reagan, who chose him as his vice president fought. Jeb lost in his first bid for Governor Lawton Chiles (1994), but won his second attempt (1998), who beat Buddy MacKay, so after two years as secretary of the State ofCommerce.

His ability to speak Spanish and alliances it is very popular with Latinos and the large number of independent voters in a state, largely democratic. This would give him an attractive addition to the ticket.

S prior to the official George W. Bush 'reelection campaign in 2004, many Republicans felt that Vice President Dick Cheney should be replaced on the ticket of the former New York Mayor Rudolph (Rudy) Giuliani. Rumor was that Cheney, who becauseAge and well-documented health problems, sat down on the meetings to discuss whether or not Rudy's presence would strengthen the ticket.

Rudy Giuliani was once a Democrat, an independent, before it is finally on the Republican Party. 1981 Giuliani was named Associate Attorney General, the fourth highest position in the judiciary. Two years later he was appointed U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. In 1989, Giuliani lost his firstMayor attempting to David Dinkins, but Dinkins Offer derailed "for re-election in 1993 and won with 82,000 votes from nearly 2 million votes.

Giuliani leadership was praised, as he led New York through the aftermath of the 9-11 terrorist attacks. Time magazine called him "... the gutsy decision makers, balancing security against symbolism, overruled those who wanted to keep the city's buttoned up tight, pressing the key institutions - from the New York Stock Exchange to Major League Baseball - toto reopen and prove that New Yorkers were always with their lives. He was the crisis manager, bringing together scores of major stakeholders from city, state and federal governments for marathon daily meetings was that all work together. And he was the consoler in chief, strong enough to edge his voice with pain, compassion and love. "

But its origin is not free of scandals, which include having an affair and a very public divorce. Moreover, black leaders despise him for the protectionPolice officers in the Diallo shooting, where the unarmed victim was shot and killed 41-times involved is presented as a criminal and his record company cited the public. Moreover, he remained silent when the police broomstick sodomy of Abner Louima. During his tenure as U.S. Attorney, he was criticized for co-ordination within several high-profile arrests only at a later time charges for lack of evidence.

Another contender for the veep position New York Governor George Pataki, although hebe considered a long shot.

VIII THE QUESTIONS

How the Dems I think the GOP should also be an issue from the beaten path, such a theme is the question of rebuilding the infrastructure of the United States. America's sewers, bridges and roads are in poor condition. The estimates for solving the problem have had up to four trillion U.S. dollars. This is not a burden that can be shouldered solely by the countries.

But other issues will be tackled by the U.S. militaryPresence in the Middle East, provided we are still in Iraq or Iran. Education, whether it should address the issue, and drilling off the California coast of Florida or the Arctic National Refuge, change the tax code, fixing Social Security, stabilize the rising costs of health care, immigration and internal security.

The 2008 campaign is therefore not so much about political parties or personalities per se, but issues and who is best qualified to addressconcerns.
